About Me and TeachMommyTeach!

Picture of the author

Hello! My name is Jamie, the creator of TeachMommyTeach! I have several years of teaching and childcare experience that range from infant to high school age. I have a bachelor's degree in music education and then took enough graduate hours to be ELL certified. I have worked in public school, private school, and in-home settings. I've taught general music classes, beginning computer classes, preschool, private music lessons, and tutoring sessions for elementary reading and math. I'm passionate about education, and I know the key to a child's success is the parent or primary caregiver!

This website is the result of my 2020 quarantining which I spent a lot of that extra stuck-at-home time creating educational activities for my children and researching how to code. I decided I wanted to create a website to share the educational activities. Then I decided I wanted to make this website unique by all of my educational resources being free (see Terms of Use for any questions) and by adding encouragement to parents and primary caregivers who are spending time learning with their children! This was very important to me, because I know how important the role parents and primary caregivers play in their children's development. Many factors play into a child's success, but I have not found anything that predicts success better than the parents/primary caregivers being engaged with their child. Research proves my observations as well. Simply google search "parent involvement research," and look at the results.

I hope this website sparks ideas and encourages you to teach and learn with your child! Since childrearing can leave us burnt out at times, I have put parental encouragement in blue at the end of most activity pages. I have also added Teaching Tips in purple throughout the website.

Encouragement: No matter what your background, education level, ability, or disability is, you (the parent/primary caregiver) are the key to your child's success! It takes a village and a home. You are important!

Fred Rogers says it best: "I usually say at the end of each Mister Rogers' Neighborhood program, "You've made this day a special day by just your being you. There's only one person in the whole world like you and people can like you just because you're you." That's meant for the children to hear, but it's meant for parents, too."
